LADYHAYE’S GUIDE FOR TRANSPORTING YOUR PET TO SOUTH AFRICA

Dogs & cats are not subject to any quarantine on arrival in South Africa. However, if necessary, quarantine centres are at: Johannesburg, Capetown and Durban. All pets travelling to South Africa must have an Import Permit this is obtained from Pretoria and we can arrange this on your behalf, we have many contacts in South Africa who are experienced in the process and it usually takes around 10 days to obtain. All pets must also have an Export Health certificate completed by an LVI vet within 10 days of travel. We will apply on your behalf to DEFRA for them to forward to your nominated vet.

1. Micro Chipping: All dogs & cats travelling into South Africa, must be micro chipped prior to departure from the UK. The microchip numbers will be checked on arrival into South Africa, by the state veterinary department

2. Import Permits: All animals are subject to issue of an import permit, issued by Pretoria.  Ladyhaye can organise this for and advise costs.

3. Dogs Only: Dogs are subject the following pre-export testing if they have been resident in any other country during their life, Leishmaniosis, Babesia Gibsoni and Dirofilaria immitis (Heartworm) blood tests within the 30 days prior to departure. Dogs that have only been resident in Great Britain since birth require just Leishmaniosis.  Ladyhaye can advise further on this.

4. Export Health Certificates are required for all pets and must be issued by an LVI vet within 10 days of departure, Ladyhaye can organise this on your behalf.
