LADYHAYE'S GUIDE TO EXPORTING YOUR PET TO AUSTRALIA

Dogs and cats are subject to 30 days quarantine and these are at Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. However certain formalities must be carried out prior to departure of your pet from the UK. They are as follows:

1. The Import Permit We will apply to Australia for this and usually takes around 10-14 days to be issued. No flight bookings can be made until the quarantine space has been confirmed and this can only be done once the permit has been issued.

2. Micro Chipping All dogs and cats must be Micro Chipped prior to applying to Australia for an Import Permit. Micro Chips starting with 999 will not be accepted by Australia

3. DEFRA Export Health Certificate This needs to be completed by an LVI vet. DEFRA will send this document to your veterinary surgeon 10 days before travel. Our vet can also complete all the necessary pre export tests and we can board your pet during this time.

4. Vaccinations for Dogs Full vaccinations including distemper and kennel cough must be completed not less than 14 days and not more than 12 months prior to day of departure. Please note that if a booster vaccination is due within a few months of departure it should be carried out without the Leptospirosis content included, as this could interfere with the blood test result.

5. Vaccinations for Cats Full up to date vaccinations against Feline enteritis, feline rhinotracheitis and feline calivirus at a date not less than 14 days prior to export and not more than 12 months prior to export.

6. Blood Tests (dogs only) These must be sent to the Central Laboratory, Weybridge Surrey. Ladyhaye will send a vet schedule detailing the dates for the pre export testing

Here is a list of the tests for dogs that need to be carried out: ( Cats will only need Frontline & parasite treatments)

  • Lesihmania
  • Brucella Canis
  • Leptospira Canicola
  • Canine Ehrlichosis
  • Frontline for Ticks after Blood Tests
  • Internal Parasites Both dogs and cats must be treated within 30 days prior to departure with a broad-spectrum treatment for roundworm and tapeworm, again this will be detailed on the schedule we provide. We can also help with arrangements for flights to other parts of Australia once the 30 days quarantine period is up.
